Migoti Coffee

OUR VISION

“Coffee as a Catalyst for Growth and Prosperity”

Migoti Coffee Company began in 2015 with the goal to connect local Burundian coffee farmers, through quality coffee processing and transparent supply chains, with buyers and roasters from around the world. The founders of Migoti Coffee, two engineers born in Burundi, had a strong desire to see coffee-producing communities economically transformed, with coffee as a catalyst for the growth.

Migoti first began working in a remote mountainous area near the continental divide called Mutambu. This community had all but abandoned coffee as a source of income due to the 12-year civil war, during which their Arabica coffee trees were neglected and destroyed. Another challenge was the great distance between their small farms and washing stations, which led many farmers to process lower quality coffee on their farms. In 2016, Migoti Coffee helped to construct a modern coffee washing station in the center of Mutambu, and now the community has a new-found hope for the future and farmers are investing in their coffee farms.

Since our beginning partnership with the Mutambu community, Migoti has grown by helping to build another washing station in the neighboring community of Nyabiraba. Then starting in 2022, Migoti began partnerships with coffee cooperatives who own their own washing station, helping them to improve quality and to access the international market. Our vision remains the same – to see coffee-producing communities economically transformed, with coffee as a catalyst for growth and prosperity.
