During the first few weeks of our harvest season this year we had a team of three men from the US come visit us for a week to capture the coffee production experience on video and photo. One focus for us this year is to share the stories of our partner farmers, our shared vision for their community, and details of the coffee production process with our roasters and buyers around the world.
On the first day in the field the team hiked high in the mountains around Pontien’s childhood home at Murambi Hill to interview him and learn the history of the area. During Burundi’s civil war Pontien had to flee the area due to insecurity, going to a neighboring community where he stayed with his pastor’s family and attended the nearby school. He ultimately left the area for high school and university education, and he has now returned to his community to invest in coffee and to help his community to get back on their feet!
